NSERC Discovery Development Grant (DDG)

A safety-net for faculty at smaller NSERC-eligible institutions (notably relevant for researchers at Grenfell Campus / MUN satellite campuses / College of the North Atlantic affiliated programs). If your Discovery Grant application scores above the funding cutoff but isn't selected, you're automatically considered for a DDG — typically $10K–$20K/year for 2 years. No separate application. Worth flagging because NSERC-eligible faculty at small institutions often don't know this exists and submit a DG expecting binary outcomes. Can be renewed; terms end with a final report.
